SYNOPSIS

One week.

Home alone.

Girl genius.

Unrepentant slacker.

What’s the worst that could happen?

Mona is a smart girl and had everything figured out a long time ago. She had to. She didn’t have a choice. When your parents are uber-celebrities and you graduate from high school at thirteen, finish college at seventeen, and start your PhD program at eighteen, you don’t have time for distractions outside of your foci. Even fun is scheduled.

Which is why Abram, her brother’s best friend, is such an irritant.

Abram is a talented guy, a supremely gifted musician, and has absolutely nothing figured out, nor does he seem to care. He does what he feels when he feels, and—in Mona’s opinion—he makes her feel entirely too much.

Laws of Physics is the second trilogy in the Hypothesis series; Laws of Physics parts 1 (MOTION) & 2 (SPACE) end with a cliffhanger.

my-review

I knew this book was going to end with a cliffhanger, but what surprised me was how fast the end of the book seemed to creep up on me.
I was so engaged in the story and loving Mona (Lisa) and Abram’s chemistry and bantering, that time flew and then… BAM!
End of story.

(I am truly grateful that there is only a month between books. (Thank you, Penny!))

I finished the book thinking:
So many questions!
So many possibilities!
What will happen?
Who will happen?
When will happen?

it's true

YIKES!

Another great, SMART story by Penny Reid!
I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!

I never thought my first kiss would be on my wedding day.

But here I stand, clutching a bouquet of pale pink roses behind the doors of a Las Vegas chapel, and at the end of the aisle is the absolute last man I imagined would be waiting for me.

Thomas Bane.
Bestselling author. Notorious bad boy. Savagely handsome, dark as sin, chiselled as stone. And somehow, my soon-to-be husband.

Marry him, and I’ll land my dream job. Save him, and I’ll walk away with everything I’ve ever wanted. All I have to do is remember it’s all for show.
None of it is real, no matter how real it feels.

But first, I have to survive the kiss.
And with lips like his, my heart doesn’t stand a chance.

“5 – Without trust, there is no love Stars!”

You know when you read a book and you absolutely fall in love with characters because you see their strengths and weaknesses.
You like how they talk to one another, they have great conversations, they’re comfortable with each other, and they banter like they were made for each other.

Even though Amelia and Thomas’s relationship first started out as a business deal, it didn’t take long for it to develop into something beautiful and precious.

Trust between the two of them happened almost immediately.
Amelia would do everything in her power to protect Thomas, and Thomas’s protective instincts kicked into full gear when he was around Amelia.
There was mutual respect and a balance of power.

But, what I liked the most about Amelia’s character was that even though she was inexperienced with relationships, she wasn’t portrayed as being “stupid”.
She was smart, funny and protective of the people she loved.
What she lacked in experience she more than made up in compassion, empathy and love.

And even reading this book and knowing Amelia’s decision was going to come back and bite her, it still hurt to read that part of the book.

One of my favourite quotes:

“Everyone needs forgiveness.
I’ll beg yours again someday, and you’ll beg mine.
Because love isn’t perfect, but forgiveness is absolute.
I will always forgive you if you’ll promise to do the same.”

 photo love.gif

The Dedication at the beginning of this story says it all for me.

“To the quiet girls,
The soft girls,
The girls with more thoughts
than words:
Love speaks loud and clear.”

I thought everything about this book was amazing!

BLACK BULLET (Order of the Senary, #2) by L.D. Rose

Black BulletBlack Bullet by L.D. Rose
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“5-Never give up on something you can’t go a day without thinking about Stars!”

I don’t really read dark, edgy paranormal romance, but the synopsis for this book and the first book in the series (Releasing the Demons) had me curious and intrigued.

I’m so glad I took the chance and agreed to read and review this book!

This is an urban fantasy/paranormal romance.
The world the author has created is where the Vampires have made themselves know to the human race and now they want to rule.
Millions were killed during the initial insurgency.

The Vampires rule the night and the human spend their time coping with the loss from the nights and fighting the Vampires in order to survive.

In order to combat the Vampires, the Government experimented and created genetic hybrids (half human-half vampire) that have special “gifts” that make them superior to even the vampires.

The hybrids are thought to have been destroyed because of the uproar about the genetically modified embryos, so they remain as a secret black-ops project knows as the “Order of the Senary”.

This story is about Jon Kerr, a former marine, FBI agent and now a “vampire, but not a vampire” who was saved by the Order because of his former work with them while he was an FBI agent, and it’s also about Lawan, the only female hybrid left alive.

Their story is tragic, dark and edgy but oh so worth the read.

I loved it!
This arc has so many possibilities and so much potential.
I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!

I’m so thrilled that the author reached out to me and asked me to review for her!

Even though it’s been a couple of days since I’ve read this story, I still can’t seem to get the characters and the story out of my head.
I keep replaying certain scenes and the dialogue between the protagonists, and I’m convinced I’m going to have to reread this book in the near future.
It was that good!

This is the first book I’ve read by L.J. Shen, and now I’m kicking myself for not reading her sooner.
(guess I’ll be purchasing her backlist)

“5- You have to fight for what you want Stars!”

The Kiss Thief was an incredible, dark, edgy, engaging story!
I was so invested in these characters and their story, that I couldn’t put this book down.
Wolfe was probably one of the most cold-hearted, calculating, and the cruellest protagonist I’ve read in a long time.

Francesca had no idea what happened in her life.
One minute she was living her life the way she had been brought up to do and everything was going according to plan. She was going to marry her childhood sweetheart, and they were going to live the life they so often talked about, then out of nowhere she’s suddenly told she’s going to marry a total stranger who thinks she’s a privileged, entitled, stupid girl.

Wolfe dispises Francesca’s father with everything he is and he doesn’t hide the fact that he hates her by association.
What Wolfe doesn’t realize at the beginning of their relationship, is that Francesca may be young and innocent, but she’s got a fire and strength to her that challenges and forces Wolfe to rethink, recalculate, and negotiate some of his actions.

 photo teaser 4.jpg

In a twisted way, the reader (that would be me) was cheering for this couple because I really didn’t want to believe that this 19-year-old girl would be trapped in a loveless, cruel marriage to a powerful 30-year-old man.
I wanted a happily ever after for Francesca because I liked her so much and also because she was a strong, smart, innocent bystander in this tragic game between her father and her husband.

Great story!
Wonderful writing!
Amazingly complex characters!

I thoroughly enjoyed this story and can’t wait to read more from this author.

Excerpt

“Are you sure you’re on my card?” I turned to the man with a polite yet distant smile. I was still disoriented from the exchange with Angelo when the stranger pulled me against his hard body and pressed a possessive hand lower than socially acceptable on my back, a second from groping my butt.

“Answer me,” I hissed.

“My bid on your card was the highest,” he replied dryly.

“The bids are undisclosed. You don’t know how much other people have paid,” I kept my lips pursed to keep myself from yelling.

“I know it’s nowhere near the realm of what this dance is worth.”

Un-freaking-believable.

We began to waltz around the room as other couples were not only spinning and mingling but also stealing envious glances at us. Naked, raw ogles that told me that whomever the blonde he’d come to the masquerade with was, she wasn’t his wife. And that I might have been all the rage in The Outfit, but the rude man was in high demand, too.

I was stiff and cold in his arms, but he didn’t seem to notice—or mind. He knew how to waltz better than most men, but he was technical and lacked warmth and Angelo’s playfulness.

“Nemesis.” He took me by surprise, his rapacious gaze stripping me bare. “Distributing glee and dealing misery. Seems at odds with the submissive girl who entertained Bishop and his horsey wife at the table.”

I choked on my own saliva. Did he just call the governor’s wife horsey? And me submissive? I looked away, ignoring the addictive scent of his cologne, and the way his marble body felt against mine.

“Nemesis is my spirit animal. She was the one to lure Narcissus to a pool where he saw his own reflection and died of vanity. Pride is a terrible illness.” I flashed him a taunting smirk.

“Some of us could use catching it.” He bared his straight white teeth.

“Arrogance is a disease. Compassion is the cure. Most gods didn’t like Nemesis, but that’s because she had a backbone.”

“Do you?” He arched a dark eyebrow.

“Do I…?” I blinked, the courteous grin on my face crumpling. He was even ruder when we were alone.

“Have a backbone,” he provided. He stared at me so boldly and intimately, it felt like he breathed fire into my soul. I wanted to step out of his touch and jump into a pool full of ice.

“Of course, I do,” I responded, my spine stiffening. “What’s with the manners? Were you raised by wild coyotes?”

“Give me an example,” he said, ignoring my quip. I was beginning to draw away from him, but he jerked me back into his arms. The glitzy ballroom distorted into a backdrop, and even though I was starting to notice that the man behind the demi-mask was unusually beautiful, the ugliness of his behaviour was the only thing that stood out.

I am a warrior and a lady…and a sane person who can deal with this horrid man.

“I really like Angelo Bandini.” I dropped my voice, slicing my gaze from his eyes and toward the table where Angelo’s family had been seated. My father was sitting a few seats away, staring at us coldly, surrounded by Made Men who chatted away.

“And see, in my family, we have a tradition dating back ten generations. Prior to her wedding, a Rossi bride is to open a wooden chest—carved and made by a witch who lived in my ancestors’ Italian village—and read three notes written to her by the last Rossi girl to marry. It’s kind of a good luck charm mixed with a talisman and a bit of fortunetelling. I stole the chest tonight and opened one of the notes, all so I could rush fate. It said that tonight I was going to be kissed by the love of my life, and well…” I drew my lower lip into my mouth and sucked it, peering under my eyelashes at Angelo’s empty seat. The man stared at me stoically, as though I was a foreign film he couldn’t understand. “I’m going to kiss him tonight.”

“That’s your backbone?”

“When I have an ambition, I go for it.”

A conceited frown crinkled his mask as if to say I was a complete and utter moron. I looked him straight in the eye. My father taught me that the best way to deal with men like him was to confront, not run. Because of this man? He’d chase.

Luna and the Lie by Mariana Zapata

Luna and the LieLuna and the Lie by Mariana Zapata
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“5- You only miss the shots you don’t take Stars!

I’d like to start off by saying that I almost cried when Mariana posted on December 13th, 12 minutes earlier on Facebook that “Luna and The Lie” was LIVE.
It took me about two point three seconds to “one-click” that sucker to get it on my kindle PRONTO!
However, I wasn’t able to start reading it until Friday night.

This is how it played out in my house:

Husband: Heather, It’s 4 am. What are you doing?
Me: Reading.
Really, I didn’t realize how late it was.
Husband: You coming to bed?
Me: Soon.
…4:45 am – Bed

8:00 am
Husband: What are you doing?
Me: COFFEE. Finishing my book.
Husband: Really? You got hardly any sleep.
Me: But, it’s SO GOOD! I gotta finish it!
And I did.
Then I re-read the last chapter and the epilogue because it was freaking AMAZING!

This book is one of my favourite books this year!

Luna… was just an amazing character to read!
Her hope, gratitude, love, forgiveness, fierceness, and the “little bit shady” when she needed to be was GOLD!
I loved, loved, loved her!

Ripley was just an amazing character as well.
He was the mysterious, bad-ass, alpha complex character that was perfect for Luna and her loving heart.

Favourite Quote:
“You calm me. You know that? You do to me what all that jewellery you wear does for you. Just looking at you makes me feel better. And not just fucking better but better. Different. Like you look right through me and my bullshit and you know what’s in there better than I do.”

 photo rip.jpg

I loved the setting of the story, at an auto repair/classic car restoration shop.

 photo classic car 1.jpg

This is classic Mariana Zapata slow-burn perfection.

So many times throughout the book this was me.
 photo youknowyouhaveagoodbookwhen.jpg

I highly recommend this book.
I know I’ll be re-reading again (probably soon) because it was that good!

Synopsis

Return to New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh’s darkly passionate Guild Hunter world, where human-turned-angel Elena Deveraux, consort to Archangel Raphael, is thrust centre stage into an aeons-old prophecy…

Midnight and dawn, Elena’s wings are unique among angelkind—and now they are failing. The first mortal to be turned into an immortal in angelic memory, she’s regressing. Becoming more and more human. Easier to hurt. Easier to kill.

Elena and Raphael must unearth the reason for the regression before Elena falls out of the sky. Yet even as they fight a furious battle for Elena’s very survival, violent forces are gathering across the world. In China, the Archangel Favashi is showing the first signs of madness. In New York, a mysterious sinkhole filled with lava swallows a man whole. In Africa, torrential monsoon rains flood rolling deserts. And in Elena’s mind whispers a haunting voice that isn’t her own.

This time, survival may not be possible…not even for the consort of an archangel.

 photo cdd4367c-2f66-4879-83a5-7181df17c004.jpg

This is the best, of the best of the Guild Hunter Series!

Oh… the ending.
Be prepared. I was shocked and surprised by it.
I really liked how the ending was narrated by the Primary of the Legion.

I love the potential this story arc has (so many exciting possibilities).
I can’t wait to see what happens next, and I can’t wait to see the full potential of the Legion and discover their past and memories.

Raphael’s desperation to find a cure for Elena was heartbreaking and so honest and true.
His character seemed to devolve right along with Elena’s body.
The emphasis on Raphael and Elena’s vows of “we” and “together” in this battle against the unknown forces and prophecies is what made this story so amazing and the reason why I read Nalini Singh’s books.

 photo teaser 2.jpg

I know many people had a hard time with the ending of this book, but I believe that only good things are going to come with this new arc.

Amazing read!

Favourite Quotes:

“Nothing will take you from me.
His fingers dug into her flesh.
Not even the Cascade.
The wind and the rain in her mind, a relentless storm she never wanted to escape.
He was hers and she was his, and together they were a unit that could not be torn apart by forces either mortal or immortal.”
-Raphael

“Enough of this.” His consort placed her palms against his glowing wings.
“You don’t have to save me, Archangel.
We are us.
That’s how we fight this. Together.” One hand against his heart.
“You’re a little bit mortal and I’m a tiny bit immortal. We did that to each other. We created the wildfire. We beat Lijuan. We’ll beat this together. The one thing we won’t do is surrender who we are to this menace.”
-Elena

“I will undo the universe for you.”
Tear it to pieces, leave it as broken as his heart would be if he didn’t have Elena.
“Tell Cassandra I don’t believe in the predestination crap, either.”

my-review

Lionheart, the third and final book in the Moonshadow trilogy is Thea Harrison’s writing at her best.
This book… the writing, story and characters are the reason I started reading Ms Harrsion’s work in the first place and continue to “1-chick” her books as soon as they’re available.
She’s one of the few authors I tri-buy (paperback, digital, and audio).

Oberon, King of the Dark Fae was an amazing character to read.
Of all the characters in the Elder Races books, Oberon is one of the most powerful, intelligent, loyal, and loved by his people… but it is also these characteristics also make him one of the deadliest as well.

lionheart teasers from th 8

Even when he was losing his battle against the poison inside of his body, he knew enough to put himself in stasis in order to survive, but also so he wouldn’t destroy the ones he loved.

The other protagonist in the story, Dr Kathryn Shaw was the perfect character to compliment him.
She was strong, intelligent, loyal and compassionate.

The chemistry, interest, awareness, respect and trust gradually grew between Oberon and Kathryn, but once it did, this couple was unstoppable.
